Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Amiot clerked for the Honorable William M. Nickerson, United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
From 1994 to 1997, she was an Associate in the Washington, D.C. office of a large Atlanta-based firm, where she defended a variety of products liability cases (including breast implant and tobacco cases), and represented several medical device companies in litigation matters involving the FDA. She devoted numerous pro bono hours assisting victims of domestic violence.
In 1997, Ms. Amiot became a Trial Attorney in the Department of Justice's Tax Division (Western Criminal Enforcement Section). As a tax prosecutor, she litigated complex white collar cases involving tax evasion, securities fraud, and bank fraud. While at the Tax Division, Ms. Amiot also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia prosecuting domestic violence cases.
In 2000, Ms. Amiot returned to her home town of Baltimore to become an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. Ms. Amiot served a two-year term appointment as an AUSA, during which she investigated and prosecuted a wide range of cases in the United States District Court , including violent crimes, narcotics offenses, and complex white collar crimes. After completing her two-year appointment, Ms. Amiot joined STSW in 2002.
