Focus

Mr. Zissel is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice on civil litigation, primarily in the area of personal injury litigation.  Mr. Zissel has an admirable trial record and actively tries cases on the District and Circuit Court levels throughout Maryland.

Mr. Zissel serves as Court-Appointed Counsel in Adult Guardianship matters in Howard County and has tried many contested guardianship cases throughout the state.

Professional History

Mr. Zissel began his professional career interning for the Chief Judge of the US Bankruptcy Court while still in law school.  Following this internship, he clerked for both the Maryland Attorney General’s Office and a prominent Baltimore litigation firm.  

Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Zissel served as law clerk to the Honorable Louis A. Becker of the Circuit Court for Howard County.  During this clerkship Judge Becker handled all Guardianship cases in the county in addition to a full case rotation.  This allowed Mr. Zissel to have hands on experience with all types of guardianship matters and provided him with valuable experience in this complex area of the law and allowed for insight into how the process works from the Court’s perspective.  

Upon completion of his clerkship, Mr. Zissel worked as an insurance defense attorney, defending personal injury claims, auto accident claims and workers’ compensation claims District Court, Circuit Court and Commission levels.  Handling cases from both sides of the table has given Mr. Zissel a distinct advantage as a Plaintiff’s attorney and helped hone the analytical and practical skills needed of a successful trial attorney.  

In 2008, he joined Silverman Thompson Slutkin & White and regularly appears in courts through out the state on behalf of his clients.  

Honors, Awards and Appointments

Mr. Zissel attended the University of Baltimore School of Law as a Dean’s Scholar.  While in law school, he interned for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Maryland and the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.  Additionally, Mr. Zissel was a member of Lawyers Campaign Against Hunger, Student Division.
