Focus
Matthew Baldwin is Chair of the Firm’s Sports & Entertainment Law Group. He represents coaches and sport executives in both professional and collegiate sports leagues, including the NFL and NCAA, among others.  In his practice, Matt handles an array of services for the Firm’s clients, including: contract negotiation, strategic marketing, interview preparation, and media relations.
Professional History
Mr. Baldwin has extensive experience negotiating complex employment and marketing contracts in both professional and collegiate sports, as well as on behalf of broadcasters, and has developed several unique strategies to benefit clients in their employment relationships.

Various contract negotiation engagements during Mr. Baldwin’s career include: (1) NFL (coach and executive) employment agreements with the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Washington Redskins; (2) NCAA (football and basketball coach) employment agreements with Air Force, Alabama, Arkansas State, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Davidson, Delaware, Fresno State, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue, San Francisco, Southern California, Texas Tech, Villanova, and Wyoming; and (3) marketing, endorsement, and brand ambassador agreements with Champs Sports, Corona, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dockers, GoPro, and Hooters.

Mr. Baldwin also has significant experience managing the financial needs and interests of clients, including the administration of brokerage, taxation, life and property insurance, real estate, and estate planning matters.    

Mr. Baldwin is a member of the Board of Advisers for the Center for Sport and the Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Prior to moving to Baltimore and joining STSW, Mr. Baldwin served as the Legal Counsel and Senior Associate at Professional Sports Representation, Inc., in Reno. Other relevant sports industry experience includes employment positions at IMG and CAA.

Mr. Baldwin graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law, where he was a member of Sports Law Association and Federalist Society; and Rice University, where he was a four-year football letterman, team captain, and GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
